Manufacturing Processes

Wausaukee Composites - Owosso, Inc. has a full range of manufacturing capabilities, including:

Molding Processes

Resin Transfer Molding (RTM). A dry fiber reinforcement is placed in a (typically epoxy) matched-die mold.  The mold is closed and sealed before a liquid thermosetting resin is infused through the cavity, combining with the resin to make the composite.

Sheet Molding Compound (SMC). A processed sheet of chopped fiber compounded with a resin matrix is placed on a heated steel mold.  The press closes and the material spreads across the cavity to make a part.

Liquid Composite Molding (LCM, also known as cold molding). Liquid resin is poured onto a dry fiber reinforcement before a press closes and distributes the resin throughout the fiber.

Reaction Injection Molding (RIM). A two part system (generally polyurethane or DCPD) is injected into a closed mold.  These systems can be reinforced in a variety of ways, or may be un-reinforced.

Secondary processes

We also offer a full range of secondary processes to finish the parts to your requirements, including drilling, trimming, bonding, and priming.
